Getting Hooked On Manga

I've been getting back to my roots and re-acquainting myself with anime. Since my ex-favorite anime channel hasn't shown anime in six years and doesn't seem like it's about to start showing them again anytime soon, I've started with manga. So here's my manga list. Feel free to add suggestions for my to-read list by commenting! I would also love to hear your own reviews on any of these.^ ^

(I'll also be starting a book list for those who would like suggestions for this summer. Look out for that...

THE LIST:
LEGEND:
G: - genre.
A: - author/artist
// - recommended by a friend
|| - i saw the anime version
{#} - total number of chapters, if applicable.
[#] - manga is still ongoing, number of available chapters
***** - for "finished" manga, my  personal rating (1-5 stars, 5 being excellent - remember, these are according to my tastes and completely subjective)
(!#) - for "in progress" manga, meaning the Chapter-Page last read
?? - for recommended "on list" manga, meaning I have never heard of it and would like to know.

FINISHED:
(I'm done with these)

`1/3 No Kareshi **** G: romance, shoujo   A: Ako Shimaki/Ako Shimaki
     Kogure Yuuya takes an embarassing picture of Fukada Rei. In exchange for not spreading it, Yuuya requests that she meet him again. Secrets are told but one is kept. It's the kept secret that might just alter everything for the two. {1 - one-shot}
     Damn. This was sweet. It was incredibly touching. It made me giggle a lot and it was very entertaining. I had my suspicions the first time she saw him in his native environment (if you read it, you'll understand) but I didn't really know until it was revealed for sure. Sweeeeeet.~
     I realize I'm a sucker for the "I've loved you for so long" types. Snape. Snape. Always. Wah!
     Yuuya, of course. He's such a darling...and it doesn't hurt that he's goodlooking, haha. It's a one-shot so there's only one chapter...best line was Rei going "I've never had a boyfriend" and some random guy answering "I hope I don't end up like her". Wahaha. What do you mean, boy? That you'll never have a boyfriend?XD I have a weird sense of humor.

`Baby Pop ***** G: comedy, drama, josei   A: Ogawa Yayoi/Ogawa Yayoi
     Nagisa is forced to live with her stepfather Ryunosuke after her mother dies in an accident. {11}
     I really enjoyed this manga. As one who has never had a functional father-daughter relationship, I found this really sweet. Chapter 11 was a little out of place but it was a pretty decent ender for the series. I would've loved to see exactly what happened to them afterwards but I suppose the way she ended it was better than making a stupid ending like ZK (see below).
     I am still against long-distance relationships.
     Kyunosuke is made of win because of his innate goodness and shonen eyes, haha. I certainly recommend Chapter 10 - especially to romantics like me.

`Bloody Kiss ****  G: fantasy, supernatural, romance, shoujo   A: Furumiya Kazuko/Furumiya Kazuko
     Katsuragi Kiyo inherits a mansion from her late grandmother. Little does she know the mansion comes with a few...undead inhabitants. {6}
     Everyone who knows me knows I have a vampire thing. It even says so on my FOB. In fact, that FOB comes from this manga. It was mildly entertaining, a little boring at some parts, I have to admit. Overall, a pretty decent read. I think I'm completely biased due to the vampire thing.^ ^
     Kuroboshi may join the ranks of Lestat and Jean-Claude in my book.
     Kuroboshi has got to be the love for sexy fingers. I would have to reread it to recommend a certain chapter. I suppose I recommend the entire series.

`Zettai Kareshi **  G: comedy, romance, sci-fi, shoujo   A: Watase Yuu/Watase Yuu
     Riiko Izawa is sick of constant rejection from men so when she meets a guy who tricks her into ordering the perfect boyfriend, she takes the opportunity. It turns out that the peddler was selling "figures" (think Haley Joel Osment from A.I. except way hotter and more human) and one is delivered right to Riiko's doorstep. Together with Asamoto Soushi, Riiko and "Night" go through a crazy adventure involving more figures, forbidden love, powerful children and an alternate universe (reminds you of anything? *cough*fushigiyuugi*cough*) {33}

The basic storyline is fine though I wouldn't give it too high marks. Art is fine and clean. I personally don't like Riiko's character that much because she's one of those silly girls whose lives seem to revolve around having a boyfriend. I've had a boyfriend. It's nothing to rave about.=p (you know i love you, d)
     It's an entertaining manga and I have to give Watase points for the plot twist in Chapter Seven. However, after a little thought best friend betrayals are stereotypical of her. I seriously think the stars began dropping in Chapter 29 when (spoiler alert) she chooses the figure over the human -- ew? -- then I rather resent Soushi for returning to her -- if you ask my opinion, I wouldn't return to the girl who rejected me and chose a robot over me. I fail to understand "love", I suppose.
     Of the main characters, Soushi takes the cake but I have a particular love for Gaku Namikiri. But overall, my favorite character would have to be Asamoto Masaki (Soushi's younger brother) because he's the least angsty among all the characters. I recommend...Chapter 22 because up until that point, I still believed that Soushi had a brain. Then all goes downhill after that.:D And I just love leaving chapters (gasp. now you know someone's leaving).

IN PROGRESS:
(I'm still muddling through these)

~ [Bitter Virgin] ***.5   G: drama, mature, romance, seinen   A: Kusunoki Kei/Kusunoki Kei
     Not as suggestive as the title suggests. Rather touching. [24]
     (!24)

~ //Death Note// **  G: anime, drama, mystery, shounen, supernatural   A: Ohba Tsugumi/Obata Takeshi
     Certainly not as entertaining as I hoped it would be. I'm pretty bored with it. I will try to finish soon. {111}
     (!5-19)

~ //[Elfen Lied]// **.5  G: action, anime, drama, ecchi, mature, romance, seinen, supernatural
          A: Okamoto Lynn/Okamoto Lynn
     Dylan, I will get you back for this. Team Men = Pig/Hedwig. My delicate innocent sensibilities (or what's left of them)!!! They burn! Well, I just chowed down all the available volumes and I'll be on stand-by for the next batch. On to Ouran! [84]
     (!84)

~ //
Ouran High School Host Club// G: comedy, high school life, shoujo   A: Hatori Bisco/Hatori Bisco
     This comes highly recommended. I don't have a rating yet as I'm just about to start.:D

Ooh, lotsa cool picks! :D

I'm reading Bitter Virgin right now, and I kinda stopped reading Death Note. Bitter Virgin's story is so cool noh? It's like really unique. :)

Ichigo 100% is about this guy, Manaka Junpei, who is looking for the girl he saw once on the rooftop of his school, and his only clue is that she's wearing strawberry panties. Hehe.

It's really fun cuz the story twists and turns in a lot of directions. I enjoyed it, hope you will too. :)

I should get to reading Fruits Basket too. Haha. :P
